Where users require a Linux machine, they are provided with a Linux machine which does not have a GUI. Due to the way SeRP is structured, it is not possible to mount the file storage to a Linux server, users therefore need to move data to the Linux server to perform any analysis.
This user guide is intended to describe the process for users to connect to a Linux server and the movement of data to the Linux server.
Step-by-step guide
- Before accessing the Linux machine, you will need to connect to the Windows Desktop within VMWare Horizon.
- Once you are connected to the Windows desktop you will need to use "Putty" to SSH across to the Linux machine. Putty can be found if you navigate to the R drive. As per screenshot 1 below.

3. Once you have opened Putty, you will need to enter the IP address of the Linux machine that you have been provided with.

4. Following successfully accepting the keys provided you will be presented with a connection to the Linux machine as per the screenshot below. Use the user details that you have used to log on to the Windows desktop with.

As previously referred, you'll need to move data to the Linux machine. For this, WINSCP is used to move data from the Windows Desktop
- Navigate to the R drive of the Windows desktop and you will find the "WinSCP" application.
- Once the application opens, see the highlighted sections of the application, select the files/folders from each directory to move the files from SeRP to your user home drive on the Linux machine.
