From time to time you will need administrative rights on your desktop to install some software or an application update.  In order to enable users to help themselves we have enabled the ability to temporarily grant administrative rights for a period of 30 minutes through an application installed on your desktop call "Make Me Admin"

Please take care installing software and ensure you understand what you are doing and why you need to do this.  IF you install software that contains viruses then your desktop will be wiped and reinstalled and you could loose documents / work.  If in doubt contact technical support through the helpdesk system.

Step-by-step guide

to open "Make Me Admin"

  1. Press the start button and type "Make Me Admin"

When the application opens there will be a slight delay while it checks your permission to use this feature.

If you are authorised then you should be able to select "Grant Me Administrator Rights"

The window will disappear and a notification by the clock will inform you that it has worked.

In 30 Minutes the permission will be automatically removed.  However if you reopen the application you can select to remove this permission manually.

Troubleshooting

If there are no options available then this is either because you are using a domain admin user account (Technical Support Staff) or there is an issue.  Contact technical support through Helpdesk if this is the case

We no longer enable people to have permanent local admin rights as this increases the chance of a malicious application hacking your desktop, given that you can elevate your permissions yourself and instantly there is no longer a need.
